The 2012 Budget and the Canada Gazette

April 13, 2012

Dear Madam/Sir:

Further to the 2012 Budget, the decision has been made to completely transition the publication of the Canada Gazette from traditional print to exclusively electronic publication. This aligns with the Government of Canada’s greening government initiatives. While there has been a significant increase in the number of visits to the Canada Gazette Web site (almost 500,000 unique visits in 2010/11), the resulting demand for print copies of the Canada Gazette has declined. This decline is expected to continue as the trend towards the use of the Internet to access publications increases.

In 2014, the Canada Gazette will no longer be printed or distributed in hard copy format. However, the Canada Gazette continues to be fully available free of charge in electronic format on the Canada Gazette Web site at The Canada Gazette Directorate also offers you the opportunity to receive electronic updates on certain content published in the Canada Gazette, Part Ⅰ and Part Ⅱ, by subscribing to RSS feeds. As a subscriber, you will also receive updates informing you when Part Ⅲ is available online. To subscribe to this service, please visit the Web site at
