CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL TRADE TRIBUNAL

INQUIRY

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (the Tribunal) has received a complaint (File No. PR-2014-050) from Samson & Associates, of Gatineau, Quebec, concerning a procurement (Solicitation No. 51019-145035/A) by the Department of Public Works and Government Services on behalf of the Department of Veterans Affairs (Veterans Affairs Canada). The solicitation is for the provision of services for operating cost reviews for Veterans Affairs Canada. Pursuant to subsection 30.13(2) of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal Act and subsection 7(2) of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal Procurement Inquiry Regulations, notice is hereby given that the Tribunal made a decision on January 20, 2015, to conduct an inquiry into the complaint.

Samson & Associates alleges that its proposal was improperly evaluated and declared non-compliant with a mandatory requirement set out in the solicitation documents.

On April 1, 2011, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission Rules of Practice and Procedure came into force. PATENTED MEDICINE PRICES REVIEW BOARD

Take notice that the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board (the “Board”) will hold a hearing in its offices in the Standard Life Centre, 18th Floor, 333 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa, Ontario, on a date to be determined by the hearing panel no later than March 6, 2015.

The purpose of the hearing is to determine whether, under sections 83 and 85 of the Patent Act, the Respondent is selling or has sold the medicine known as Soliris in any market in Canada at a price that, in the Board’s opinion, is or was excessive and, if so, what order, if any, should be made.

Soliris is the first and only treatment for patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (“PNH”). PNH is a rare and lifethreatening blood disorder that is characterized by complement-mediated hemolysis (the destruction of red blood cells).

Soliris is also approved as the first and only treatment for patients with atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (“aHUS”). aHUS is a rare and life-threatening genetic disorder characterized by “complement-mediated thrombotic microangiopathy,” or TMA (blood clots in small vessels). Soliris is indicated to inhibit complement-mediated TMA.
